PAULA MAHONY – PRESIDENT & CHIEF STRATEGIST
Creating successful solutions to clients’ problems is what makes Paula Mahony tick. Paula has built a reputation for creating interesting and yet ever-so-simple concepts that deliver incredible results. A bit of a rogue marketer, she specializes in envisioning new approaches and unique solutions. In her corporate life, her strength was her ability to build collaborative teams. As a business owner, she translates that strength into teams with one clear goal: client success.
When she established Words@Work in 1993, Paula committed herself to helping clients identify the key elements of their vision and plan. Since then, Paula has provided concept and copy direction for clients large and small including: QVC, collectiblestoday.com, WebMD, Schiavi Home Builders, United Insurance, UNUM, and the Towns of Falmouth and Cumberland, ME. Sometimes, ideas take unique form. Paula’s solution for VNA Homehealth Hospice resulted in the award-winning Ask for VNA campaign and set the organization well apart from other competitors. For the Town of Falmouth, addressing the needs of the retail business district led to the creation of Very Merry Falmouth – a three-day celebration that attracts hundreds of shoppers to the Route One corridor.
Paula believes that for organizations to succeed in today’s ever-changing world, they must focus on genuine messages of value, benefit, and need. Paula has carefully crafted Words@Work to be an off-site marketing department instead of an ad agency. Words@Work is centered on strong relationships—with, between, and among clients, team members, and vendors.
Paula is a member of the Portland Regional Chamber, a board member of the Falmouth Cumberland Community Chamber of Commerce and Dancing with the Dentists. She is on the Programming Committee of the Institute for Family Owned Business. She volunteers her time with Winter Kids and the Falmouth Land Trust. When not at work, she stays busy golfing, skiing, romping with her Black Lab and observing the behaviors of her Millennial children.

JENN DURGIN – MARKETING MANAGER
Jenn brings an extensive background in marketing to the Words@Work team. Starting her marketing career in event management, she experienced evolving client relationships, the challenges of project management and demonstrated creative problem-solving skills. “I believe that trying to understand the process for each person you collaborate with on a project creates a team chemistry and greater commitment from everyone involved.”
Jenn has successfully managed events ranging from one-day events in a single location, mobile tours that spanned months, to nationwide events executing simultaneously in multiple cities. A few key responsibilities included creating timelines, managing tasks of internal departments, communicating responsibilities to event staff, writing scripts, and on event day, ensuring all the parts and people are in the right place with the tools needed to execute the event as planned. Event management requires attention to detail and effective communication to achieve the goals and expectations of the client.
“Everyone wants to be appreciated and feel that their voices are really heard.” Jenn believes there is an art to listening to what people are saying, as the words being said in the moment don’t always convey the true goals. The culture and mission at Words@Work is perfectly in line with that philosophy. Each client is recognized as unique and the solutions to each project are found by listening intently to the clients’ vision and creating solutions to achieve or surpass expectations.
Jenn received her B.S. in Business with a concentration in Marketing from University of Maine at Orono. She spends her free time watching her teenage sons, Jerod and Liam, play soccer, basketball, and baseball and also loves playing with her two dogs, Lola and Jojo.
Eloise joined the Words@Work team in 2018. With a background in oral history and project management, she has a knack for finding unique ways to communicate our clients’ stories and important ideas. Her curiosity and commitment to storytelling has led her to travel around the country in an airstream-trailer recording interviews, and through Vietnam and Madagascar researching the experiences of women.
Most recently, Eloise worked as a personal assistant and project manager in Silicon Valley where having an eye for detail and beauty, as well as an ability to work well with a variety of vendors and individuals was critical. Indeed, she helped coordinate 400-people events and oversaw renovation and construction projects.
Eloise holds a B.A. from Middlebury College in Anthropology and attended the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. She lives in Portland with her husband and daughter.
SAMANTHA FLETCHER – MARKETING STRATEGIST
Samantha’s background in design, sales, personnel management and the employment of puns brought her to the Words @ Work team in 2019. Following a foray into the schemes of political campaigns, Samantha spent three seasons in sales, marketing, and operations with the Portland Sea Dogs. In that fun-loving, all-American setting of the ballpark, Samantha was fortunate enough to work with many of the movers and shakers who propel Portland forward on all possible cylinders of the economy. She fell in love with the small-town community that Portland provides, and is committed to seeing the brands and businesses of our clients succeed as outstanding parts of that community.

I want to help our clients to create their home here in Southern Maine, so that they can experience that same kind of joy and success in community that makes their efforts worth every at-bat.”
Samantha holds a B.A. degree in Politics, Spanish, and Fine Arts from Hillsdale College in southern Michigan. She lives in Cape Elizabeth and enjoys bonfires, baseball, hockey, hiking, and playing the harp.
